I think it was a good amendment when it was made but now people are taking advantage of it. If everyone had a gun this world would be a lot less safe. However if there weren’t any guns someone would come up with a more dangerous weapon.

Good point,holly. Though I am, TOTALLY, COMPELTLY, NOT IN ANY WAY, for hunting for sport, I understand that you would need a rifle or something for that. But c’mon…;.do we really need semi-automatic machine guns and stuff? NO. I agree with holly also about that someone will always find a loophole on what weaponary is allowed. And marlowe… why are swords better? Just because they’re so much cooler? (though they are) If you’re still using them to kill, then they’re still bad. Although having a sword for purely life or death is different, I dont know where you are going with that.

Okay, swords, guns, who cares. They’re both weapons that can kill people. Oh yes yes, killing people seems funny when you talk about it in theory but when something actually happens it’s not funny at all. If we had no weapons to start with, it wouldn’t have been so bad that we need to pick and choose who gets what. We should think about the why we need weapons, not the who. I don’t think that anyone who wants a gun should be able to get one. The only way a civilian should have a gun is if they have a hunting license. Also to get a hunting license I think you should have to go through a gun class. You shouldn’t just be able to go out and buy a hunting license. Another thing is I do think the military and police should have guns. They are the ones protecting us.

Two kids came into their highschool of Ohio and killed 12 students, wounded 24, and then killed themselves.
Know what happened next? The NRA came and gave a presentation on their guns, premoting them, right in that town! How do you think the people felt after their children had been killed or wounded?

The right to bear arms is not for random people, what the rule is actually saying is that we have the right to arm a state militia. People don’t usually get that but that’s what it means. Higher levels of authority should be allowed to use guns (with the exception of Dick Cheney), but everyday people do not need something so powerful. A blast to the face with pepper spray, or a shock from a taser could be quite disabling also. I’m pretty sure more accidental deaths are caused by guns than pepper spray.

I think that all people have a right to bear arms, but there should be a limit to what kind of weapon you have. For instance if a robber breaks into you house you don’t need a rocket launcher or a grenade you just need something to scare the robber away. Well, not all people should be able to own a weapon. For instance you shouldn’t sell a gun to a man with a criminal record just in case the man plans on blowing a house up after he robbes it. I also think that an alcholic shouldn’t be able to own a gun just in case that man feels like drinking then feels like going out with his new gun and show it to a bunch of people.Thats what I think.

I completely agree with Emma on all of her comments. The right to bear arms has turned into a very undefined issue. When the amendments were written im pretty sure no one pictured high school students getting shot and wounded by their peers. There is no reason for the average American to be walking around town with a Magnum in there jacket pocket. If it was alot harder for people to get guns I’m sure there would be alot less stories of people getting shot because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Of course there will always be people who find ways to get guns even if its illegal but if someone like that wants to shoot you I highly doubt that you will have time to pull out your gun and shoot them first. So whats the point of every family owning their own gun?? Some of you have said robbery. Give them the money and call the police. We act as though the police dont exist. The only ones we’re protecting ourselves from are each other. Have we really sunk that low?? It’s terrible that we feel the need to have such powerful protection to feel safe. Yeah Sheldon, what Billy said is the whole second amendment and the only one that says anything about the right to bear arms.

I think that everybody is responsible for gun violence in our society. I think this because no matter what somebody says anyone can have a finer pointed at them. The government is supporting war. The people who create video games use guns. The news is showing me this. People are promoting this. Well if the people hadn’t made this gun it wouldn’t have happened and so on and so forth. Our society is a big Cookie Jar game.
I’m not sure there is much we can do to correct this problem. It would take a lot of cooperation from a lot of people. It would be very difficult to get the President to end to take the troops out of Iraq. The directors and video game creators’ wouldn’t just stop putting guns and violence into their movies and games. I just think it would be too difficult to correct this problem.

No one should have weapons. If we’re going to do any fighting it should be through strength and intelligence, not by who can blow more people up at one time. I think that guns should be illegal!! Because if we didn’t have guns around we wouldn’t have all these people dying and getting injured from gun violence. We really don’t need guns to protect ourselves nowadays anyway…… we have the police for that. And if guns were not easy to get…. then how can criminals get their hands on guns? If guns don’t become illegal then we should atleast minimize the amount of people who can get them. I f only a minimum amount of people could get their hands on guns then we wouldn’t have gun violence problems. It’s really not good to keep guns at home because every 30 second a teen or child gets injured from some form gun violence in the world……. now ask yourself…. is that a good statistic to have?

I think everyone should have the right to bear arms, and I think everyone should have the right to a state militia like Ezra said. I AM NOT PRO GUN, but I also don’t trust the government, the FBI, the CIA, or the military, but I don’t think people need automatic weapons, that’s overkill.

People have to realize when the right to bear arms was created and think about the time people were in. People back then, had no way to protect themselves in war so if you were born in those times you would not argue with the right. If this right was taken out there would be less crimes with guns and the only people that would have are the police and military.

i mean im not progun either, and i really dont care for or feel that safe with the goverment but i tihnk that to a certain extent we need guns and i tihnk that we really dont need to be using them as much as we do
i tihnk that todays world is teaching us all children and adults that its ok to be all gun crazy
i mean seriuously look at these video games:
Grant Theft Auto
Kill Zone
and others but i cant think of any now and im too lazy to search for any
